What is Vaser liposuction?

Vaser liposuction is a type of ultrasound-assisted liposuction. After the area is filled with a numbing fluid, a thin probe sends pulses of ultrasound energy that loosen and liquefy fat cells while largely sparing nerves and blood vessels; the fat is then gently suctioned out. It is used to remove stubborn fat and sculpt the body, not to lose weight.

Some fat does not respond to diet and exercise, typically on the abdomen, love handles, back, arms, inner and outer thighs, knees and under the chin. Liposuction removes these fat cells permanently. Vaser is a third-generation technology, cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration in 2002, that uses pulsed ultrasound at 36 kHz to break up fat before it is removed, instead of relying only on the back-and-forth movement of a suction cannula.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or weight loss, as the NHS points out. It works best for people close to a healthy weight who have specific areas of fat that are out of proportion with the rest of the body, and who have reasonably good skin elasticity.

Areas that can be treated with Vaser

  • Chin and neck: A sharper jawline
  • Upper arms: Slimmer arms
  • Abdomen: Upper and lower tummy
  • Flanks: Love handles and waist
  • Outer thighs: Saddlebags
  • Inner thighs: Less rubbing
  • Knees: Fat above and inside the knee

Types of Vaser liposuction

Vaser options compared

Which layer liposuction removes

  • What is removed: The deep fat layer. The skin and the layer just under it are left alone
  • The cannula: A thin tube through a few millimetre incisions, working in passes
  • What it will not do: It contours. It does not tighten loose skin and it is not weight loss

What is included in a Valentmedica Vaser liposuction package?

  • Online assessment and in-person consultation with your plastic surgeon
  • Pre-operative blood tests and anaesthetist review
  • The operation, anaesthetic and operating theatre
  • Hospital care with nursing (overnight stay for larger treatments)
  • Two medical-grade compression garments and take-home medication
  • Hotel accommodation for your recovery
  • VIP airport, hotel and clinic transfers
  • An English-speaking patient coordinator throughout your stay
  • Post-operative check-ups before you fly
  • Remote follow-up with your surgeon once you are home

What affects the price?

Your final quote depends on the number of areas, the amount of fat to be removed, whether you choose 360° or high-definition sculpting, whether you combine Vaser with a tummy tuck or a Brazilian butt lift, the surgeon's experience, the hospital category and the number of nights you need. Be cautious with very low "per area" prices: always ask how an area is defined and whether garments, anaesthesia and hospital care are included.

Is Vaser better than traditional liposuction?

Vaser can mean less blood loss and more skin tightening than traditional liposuction, and it helps with detailed sculpting and firm, fibrous areas such as the back and male chest. However, studies show no clear difference in pain, swelling or the final look for most patients. The surgeon's skill and planning matter more than the machine.

In a randomised study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2012, 20 women had Vaser on one side of the body and traditional liposuction on the other. The Vaser side had 26% less blood loss and 53% more skin retraction per litre of fat removed, but patients and doctors saw no difference in pain, swelling or appearance after 6 months. A 2026 systematic review in Frontiers in Surgery concluded that the evidence for Vaser being better is limited and that the technique should be chosen for each patient.

Why do patients from the UK, US and Europe choose Turkey for Vaser liposuction?

Patients choose Turkey for a much lower all-inclusive price, experienced body-contouring surgeons who use Vaser every week, modern private hospitals, short waiting times and a short stay of about a week, with the option to combine Vaser with other procedures.

Turkey has become one of the world's leading medical travel destinations. According to Turkish industry figures reported in July 2026, the country welcomed around 1.4 million health tourists in 2025, generating over $3 billion in revenue. Liposuction and body contouring are among the most requested aesthetic categories.

  • Value: multi-area Vaser in a complete Valentmedica package usually costs around half of the surgery-only price in the UK.
  • Experience: leading surgeons in Istanbul perform Vaser and high-definition body sculpting every week.
  • Short trip: most patients are ready to fly home after 5–7 days.
  • Speed: consultations can be arranged online within days, and surgery dates are flexible.
  • Access: most UK and European airports have direct flights of around 3–4 hours.

Liposuction is the most popular cosmetic operation in the world: the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recorded 349,728 liposuction procedures in the US in 2024, making it the number one cosmetic surgery.

Am I a good candidate for Vaser liposuction?

You may be a good candidate if you are at or close to a healthy, stable weight, have areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, have reasonably firm skin, do not smoke (or can stop) and are in good general health. Vaser is not a weight-loss treatment.

  • You are at or close to a healthy weight, usually with a BMI under 30
  • You have stubborn fat on specific areas despite diet and exercise
  • Your skin has good elasticity, so it can shrink back after the fat is removed
  • Your weight has been stable for several months
  • You do not smoke, or you can stop at least 6 weeks before and after surgery
  • You understand that Vaser reshapes your body but does not replace a healthy lifestyle

Your Vaser liposuction journey in Turkey, day by day

Most patients stay in Turkey for 5 to 7 days: arrival and consultation on day one, Vaser on day two, often one night in hospital, then hotel recovery with a check-up, garment fitting and lymphatic massage if advised, until your surgeon clears you to fly.

How is Vaser liposuction performed?

Your surgeon marks the areas while you stand, fills them with a numbing tumescent fluid through tiny incisions, uses a thin Vaser probe to loosen and liquefy the fat with pulsed ultrasound, then removes it with fine suction cannulas and shapes the area before fitting your compression garment.

  1. Marking: your surgeon marks the areas to treat and the contour you want while you stand.
  2. Anaesthesia: usually a general anaesthetic; small areas can sometimes be treated with local anaesthetic and sedation.
  3. Tumescent fluid: a sterile solution with local anaesthetic and adrenaline is injected through incisions of a few millimetres, to numb the area and reduce bleeding.
  4. Ultrasound: a thin probe delivers pulsed ultrasound energy that loosens and liquefies fat cells, while largely sparing nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue.
  5. Suction and sculpting: the loosened fat is gently removed with fine cannulas, and the area is smoothed and shaped; in HD Vaser, fat is removed in layers to show the muscle outline.
  6. Finishing: the tiny incisions are closed or left to drain, and you are fitted with a compression garment before you wake up.

Vaser liposuction recovery timeline

Expect soreness, bruising and swelling for 1–2 weeks, some fluid leaking from the incisions for the first days, a return to desk work within about a week, gentle exercise after 3–4 weeks and strenuous exercise after about 10–12 weeks. The final contour appears after 3–6 months, once the swelling has fully settled.

What to expect week by week
WhenWhat to expect
Days 1–3Soreness similar to an intense workout, swelling and some fluid leaking from the small incisions. Walk little and often.
Week 1Bruising is at its peak and then fades. Most people fly home and many return to desk work.
Weeks 2–4Most bruising has gone. The treated areas can feel firm or lumpy; this is normal and softens. Gentle exercise from about 3–4 weeks.
Weeks 4–6Swelling keeps improving, and you can usually reduce garment wear when your surgeon agrees.
6–12 weeksYour new shape is clearly visible. Build up exercise gradually; the NHS advises avoiding strenuous activity for 10–12 weeks.
3–6 monthsThe final result is visible, including any skin tightening, once the last swelling has gone.

Understanding possible reactions after Vaser liposuction

Soreness, bruising, swelling, fluid leaking from the incisions, numbness and firm or lumpy areas under the skin are normal after Vaser and settle over weeks to months. Increasing pain, fever, skin that looks blistered or darker, a swelling that keeps growing, or chest pain and shortness of breath are not normal and need urgent attention.

What is normal

  • Soreness and bruising: at their peak in the first week; the NHS notes that bruising and swelling can take up to 6 months to settle completely.
  • Fluid leaking: pink-tinged fluid can leak from the small incisions for the first 1–3 days.
  • Numbness: the treated skin can feel numb or tingly for several weeks or months.
  • Firmness and lumps: the treated areas can feel firm, hard or uneven for a few weeks while the tissue heals.
  • Swelling at the end of the day: swelling often comes and goes, and can be more noticeable after activity.
  • Tiredness: common in the first week, especially after several areas.

Vaser liposuction aftercare

Good aftercare means wearing your compression garment day and night for about 4–6 weeks, walking little and often, drinking plenty of water, keeping the small incisions clean, following any lymphatic massage plan your surgeon recommends, avoiding smoking and strenuous exercise until you are cleared, and keeping your weight stable.

In Turkey (first 5–7 days)

  • Wear your compression garment day and night, taking it off only to wash when your surgeon allows it.
  • Walk little and often from the first day to support your circulation.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat light, protein-rich meals.
  • Keep the small incisions clean and dry, and change the absorbent pads while fluid is still leaking.
  • Take your medication as prescribed and avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and supplements that thin the blood unless your surgeon agrees.
  • Attend your check-up and start lymphatic drainage massage only if your surgeon recommends it.

At home (weeks 2–12)

  • Keep wearing your garment for about 4–6 weeks, or as long as your surgeon advises.
  • Build up exercise gradually: walking first, gentle exercise after 3–4 weeks and strenuous exercise after about 10–12 weeks.
  • Avoid saunas, hot baths and swimming until the incisions have fully healed.
  • Keep a healthy diet and stable weight, as the remaining fat cells can still grow if you gain weight.
  • Protect the small scars from the sun for the first few months.
  • Send progress photos to your coordinator at the agreed intervals so your surgeon can follow your recovery.

Is Vaser liposuction in Turkey safe?

Vaser liposuction in Turkey can be as safe as at home when a qualified plastic surgeon performs it in a licensed, accredited hospital, removes a safe amount of fat, and you have proper checks, enough time before flying and a clear aftercare plan. Serious complications after liposuction alone are uncommon, at below 1% in large studies.

The most common issues are contour irregularities, fluid collection (seroma), numbness and prolonged swelling. Vaser has a specific, small risk of heat injury to the skin, which is why an experienced surgeon, enough tumescent fluid and a moving probe are essential. Rare but serious risks of any liposuction include infection, bleeding, blood clots and fluid imbalance.

Large studies put these risks in context. An analysis of 31,010 liposuction procedures, published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2017, found a major complication rate of 0.7% when liposuction was done on its own, rising when it was combined with other operations. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 studies comparing ultrasound-assisted and traditional liposuction found seroma in 2.3% vs 1.1%, skin burns in 0.6% vs 0.3% and contour irregularities in 0.1% vs 3.4%.

Checklist: how to choose a safe clinic abroad

  • Confirm your surgeon is a board-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon trained in Vaser, and ask how often they use it.
  • Ask how much fat will be removed and whether you will be monitored overnight for larger treatments.
  • Check that the hospital is licensed by the Turkish Ministry of Health for international patients, and ask about accreditations.
  • Be cautious with offers that promise dramatic weight loss or treat many areas at a very low price.
  • Get a written quote that lists everything included, including garments, and ask what happens if a touch-up is needed.
  • Check your travel insurance: standard policies usually do not cover complications from planned surgery, so consider specialist cover.

Can Vaser liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Vaser is often combined with a tummy tuck, a Brazilian butt lift using the removed fat, breast surgery as part of a mommy makeover, or an arm or thigh lift when loose skin is also present, provided your surgeon considers the total operation safe for you.

Liposuction removes fat but cannot remove loose skin, so it is frequently paired with a lift. Popular combinations include a tummy tuck, a mommy makeover, a Brazilian butt lift or fat transfer using your own purified fat, an arm lift and a thigh lift. Combining procedures increases the complication risk, so your surgeon will plan what is safe in one operation.

How to prepare for your Vaser liposuction

Reach a stable weight, stop smoking and nicotine at least 6 weeks before surgery, review your medication and supplements with your surgeon, drink plenty of water in the days before, arrange about a week off work and pack loose, dark clothing that fits over your compression garment.

  • Weight: aim to be at a stable weight you can maintain; Vaser works best as the finishing step, not the starting point.
  • Smoking: nicotine reduces blood flow and increases the risk of healing problems. BAAPS advises stopping at least 6 weeks before surgery.
  • Medication: tell your surgeon about everything you take. Aspirin, blood thinners, fish oil, vitamin E, some herbal supplements and hormonal contraception may need to be paused.
  • Hydration: drink plenty of water in the days before and after your procedure.
  • Packing list: loose, dark, comfortable clothes that fit over your garment, absorbent pads, slip-on shoes and your regular medication.

Vaser liposuction results and scars

Vaser gives a slimmer, smoother contour that improves over 3–6 months as the swelling settles. The fat cells removed do not come back, so the result is long-lasting if your weight stays stable. The scars are a few tiny incisions of a few millimetres, placed in natural creases, and usually fade to almost invisible dots.

You will see a change straight away, but swelling hides the final shape for a few months. The NHS notes that liposuction results are generally long-lasting, providing you keep a healthy weight: the remaining fat cells can still grow if you gain weight, and fat may then build up in untreated areas. Healthy eating and regular exercise help you keep your new shape. You can view real patient outcomes in our before and after gallery.

Vaser Liposuction in Turkey: frequently asked questions

At Valentmedica, Vaser liposuction in Turkey costs £1,800–£5,000 in 2026 as an all-inclusive package covering the surgeon, hospital care, hotel and transfers. One area costs £1,800–£2,300, Vaser 360° £3,300–£4,200 and high-definition Vaser £4,000–£5,000.

Yes. At private UK clinics, one area of Vaser usually costs £2,100–£5,000 and several areas £6,500–£10,000, for the surgery alone. A Valentmedica all-inclusive package for several areas costs £2,500–£5,000, including accommodation and transfers.

Vaser uses pulsed ultrasound energy to loosen and liquefy fat before it is suctioned out, while traditional liposuction relies on the mechanical movement of the cannula. Studies show Vaser can reduce blood loss and improve skin tightening, but the final look depends mostly on the surgeon's skill.

Vaser 360 treats the abdomen, flanks (love handles) and back together, all the way round the waist, for a slimmer and more balanced shape from every angle.

Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment, and the change on the scales is usually small. The difference shows in your shape and clothes size rather than your weight. For major weight loss, a weight-loss operation or programme is more suitable.

Most patients stay 5 to 7 days. The NHS advises waiting 5 to 7 days after liposuction before flying, which also allows time for your check-up and garment fitting.

Most patients describe soreness similar to an intense workout, together with tightness from the garment. It is well controlled with medication and improves significantly within the first week.

Most people return to desk work within 3 to 7 days, longer after 360° or HD Vaser. Gentle exercise usually restarts after 3 to 4 weeks, and the NHS advises avoiding strenuous activity for 10 to 12 weeks.

The fat cells removed do not come back, so the result is long-lasting. However, the remaining fat cells can still grow if you gain weight, so keeping a stable weight is the best way to protect your result.

Vaser can give a little more skin tightening than traditional liposuction, but it cannot remove loose, hanging skin. If you have significant loose skin, a lift such as a tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift may be needed.

Vaser leaves a few tiny incisions of a few millimetres, placed in natural creases where possible. They usually fade to small, pale dots over several months.

With Valentmedica you keep direct contact with your coordinator and surgeon after you fly home, so photos and questions can be reviewed quickly. We also recommend that you inform your GP or local doctor about your surgery and seek urgent local care for any emergency.
