Gastric botox is an injection of botulinum toxin into the muscular wall of the stomach during a short endoscopy, which slows how quickly the stomach empties so you feel full for longer. At Valentmedica it costs £700–£1,100 all-inclusive, takes about twenty minutes, and wears off after four to six months.
Patients who travelled to Istanbul with Valentmedica. Results from gastric botox are modest by design, and we show them at six months rather than at their best point.
Gastric botox is botulinum toxin injected into the muscle layer of the stomach wall, usually into the antrum, during a short endoscopy. It partially relaxes that muscle, slowing the rate at which the stomach pushes food onward.
The result is that food stays in the stomach longer, so you feel full sooner and for longer after a smaller meal. There are no incisions, no device left behind and no change to your anatomy. You are lightly sedated rather than anaesthetised, and you go back to your hotel the same day.
The effect is temporary by design. Botulinum toxin wears off as nerve endings regenerate, which takes four to six months, after which the stomach works exactly as it did before. That makes gastric botox the least invasive and least committing option available — and also the weakest.
| Option | Invasiveness | Duration | Typical total weight loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric botox | Endoscopy, no incision | 4–6 months | 5–10% |
| Gastric balloon | Endoscopy, device placed | 6–12 months | 10–15% |
| Gastric sleeve | Keyhole surgery, permanent | Permanent | 25–30% |
| Gastric bypass | Keyhole surgery, permanent | Permanent | 30–35% |
A Valentmedica all-inclusive gastric botox package in Istanbul costs £700–£1,100 depending on the dose used. The same treatment in the UK, where it is offered far less often, is typically £2,000–£3,500.
| Treatment | Price (GBP) | Duration | Nights in Turkey |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gastric botox, standard dose | £700–£900 | 4–6 months | 2 |
| Gastric botox, high dose | £900–£1,100 | 4–6 months | 2 |
| Gastric balloon, 6 months | £1,800–£2,100 | 6 months | 3 |
| Gastric balloon, 12 months | £2,100–£2,400 | 12 months | 3 |
Flights are excluded. Repeat treatments after the effect wears off are quoted separately — most patients who repeat do so at around six months. There are no consultation fees at any stage.
Elsewhere you usually pay for the operation alone. A Valentmedica package also includes your hospital stay, hotel, transfers and a personal coordinator.

Gastric botox suits patients with a BMI between about 27 and 35 who have a modest amount to lose, want no surgery and no device, and will use the window to change their eating.
Our BMI and eligibility calculator shows where you sit in about a minute, and a Valentmedica doctor will tell you honestly if a balloon or surgery would serve you better.
Two nights in Istanbul and a twenty-minute procedure, followed by a four to six month programme run remotely.
You complete a medical questionnaire. A doctor confirms gastric botox is appropriate and recommends a dose, and you receive a written fixed quote.
Your driver meets you at Istanbul airport and takes you to the hotel. You fast from midnight.
Blood tests first, then a short gastroscopy to check the stomach is healthy, followed by the injections. The whole thing takes fifteen to twenty minutes under light sedation. You are observed for a couple of hours and return to the hotel.
You can eat normally the same day. Mild bloating or nausea is possible but most patients feel fine.
A check-in with your coordinator, then your transfer to the airport with your dietitian plan and the record of what was injected.
The effect builds gradually. You will not notice much on day one; appetite changes come on over the first fortnight.
The strongest effect. This is the window in which to rebuild portion sizes and meal timing.
The effect fades as the toxin wears off. Appetite returns to normal.
Either repeat, move to a balloon, or carry on with what you have built. Valentmedica continues dietitian support for three months past the effect.
The hospital and hotel you will be using, and the specifics you can check before you pay a deposit.
The facility is named to you in writing, with its licence and accreditation numbers, so you can verify it rather than take our word for it. If you would like to see the building, ask: we can usually arrange a visit before you decide.
Through the mouth during a short endoscopy under light sedation. There are no incisions, no stitches and no scars.
The toxin acts on the nerve endings supplying the stomach muscle, and that takes time: expect the appetite effect to build over one to two weeks rather than arriving immediately.
There is essentially no recovery period. Most patients eat normally the same day and fly home the next, with the appetite effect building over the following fortnight.
Gastric botox is a low-risk procedure — no incisions, no general anaesthetic, nothing left behind — and the main risks come from the endoscopy rather than the toxin.
Valentmedica works with licensed clinics and hospitals in Istanbul, and with gastroenterologists registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health who perform endoscopy routinely. You are given your doctor's name and registration number, and the brand and dose of toxin used, before you fly home.
Tell your doctor about any neuromuscular condition and about every medication you take. Myasthenia gravis and some antibiotics are genuine contraindications rather than cautions.
It is most often used alongside dietitian-led weight management, or as a short bridge before a balloon or surgery.
On its own, gastric botox is a nudge. Combined with structured dietary support it becomes a reasonable first step for someone who is not ready to commit to a device or an operation.
If your BMI is over 35 and you are considering botox because surgery feels like too big a step, say so. It is a reasonable way to test the water — but be clear with yourself that it is a test, not a treatment plan.
Fast from midnight before the procedure, declare every medication and any neuromuscular condition, and have your dietitian plan ready before you travel.
Most patients lose 5–10% of their total body weight over four to six months. The effect then fades completely, and what happens next depends on what changed while it was working.
A realistic picture: someone starting at 90 kg would typically expect to lose 5–9 kg. Results vary more than with any other option on this site — some patients notice a marked change in appetite, others very little, and that variability is reflected in the published evidence rather than being a failure of technique.
Because the effect is temporary and modest, gastric botox only makes long-term sense as a supported window. Four to six months is long enough to rebuild portion sizes and routines if you work at it, and not nearly long enough to coast. Valentmedica continues dietitian support for three months past the expected end of the effect, and our weight-loss before and after gallery shows botox patients at six months rather than at their best week.
At Valentmedica, £700–£1,100 as an all-inclusive package depending on dose. That covers the endoscopist, sedation, pre-procedure tests, the toxin itself, one hotel night, transfers and dietitian support throughout. Flights are not included.
Two nights. You arrive, have the procedure the next morning, and fly home the day after.
Typically 5–10% of your total body weight over four to six months — roughly 5–9 kg for someone at 90 kg. Results vary considerably between patients, more so than with a balloon or surgery.
The honest answer is: sometimes, modestly. Some clinical trials show a benefit over placebo and others show very little, and a meaningful proportion of patients notice no change at all. It is a low-risk, low-cost nudge rather than a reliable treatment, and we would rather tell you that than sell it as something it is not.
No. You are sedated and will not remember the procedure. Afterwards you may have a sore throat from the endoscope and some bloating for a day.
Not immediately. Botulinum toxin acts on nerve endings over time, so the appetite effect builds across the first one to two weeks.
Four to six months. After that the nerve endings regenerate, the stomach empties at its normal rate again, and appetite returns to baseline.
Yes, usually from six months onwards. Many patients who repeat find the second round less noticeable. If you are planning to repeat indefinitely, a balloon or surgery is likely to be better value.
A balloon achieves roughly double the weight loss over a longer window, but involves a device, a much harder first week and a removal procedure. Botox is easier in every respect and weaker in every respect. If you have more than about 15 kg to lose, a balloon or surgery is the more sensible choice.
Yes — aminoglycoside antibiotics and muscle relaxants interact with botulinum toxin, and blood thinners matter for the endoscopy. Also declare any neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, which is a genuine contraindication.
If nothing else changes, yes — that is the expected outcome once the effect fades. The four to six months are an opportunity to rebuild eating habits while it is physically easier, which is why dietitian support is included and why we continue it for three months after the effect ends.
Licensed botulinum toxin from a named manufacturer, and the brand, batch and number of units are recorded in your paperwork before you fly home. Any clinic that will not tell you what they are injecting should be avoided.
