A hair transplant moves your own permanent hair from the back of the head to thinning or bald areas. At Valentmedica, an all-inclusive package in Istanbul costs £1,650–£2,900 depending on technique and graft count — a fraction of UK pricing, with a surgeon who plans your hairline personally rather than a technician working from a template.
Results from patients who travelled to Istanbul with Valentmedica, photographed at 12 months when growth is complete. Graft counts and techniques are listed so you can find a case close to your own pattern.
A hair transplant takes individual follicular units from the donor area at the back and sides of your head — hair that is genetically resistant to balding — and places them where you have thinned or lost hair.
The transplanted hair keeps the properties of the area it came from. That is why donor hair continues to grow for life once it has settled, and why the back of the head is the only reliable source. It also means your donor area is a finite resource: how many grafts you can safely harvest over a lifetime is the single most important number in planning your surgery.
The whole procedure is done under local anaesthetic over six to eight hours in one day. You are awake, can talk, eat lunch and listen to music. There is no general anaesthetic and no hospital night.
No technique produces more hair than your donor area can give. A clinic promising 6,000 grafts in one session is describing a harvest most scalps cannot sustain. Read our detailed comparison of FUE and DHI if you are weighing the two.
| Pattern | Area | Typical grafts |
|---|---|---|
| Norwood 2 | Hairline and temples | 1,500–2,000 |
| Norwood 3 | Hairline with temple recession | 2,000–2,800 |
| Norwood 4 | Hairline plus early crown | 2,800–3,500 |
| Norwood 5 | Front, mid-scalp and crown | 3,500–4,500 |
| Norwood 6–7 | Extensive loss | 4,500–6,000, often two sessions |
Our hair graft calculator gives you an estimate in about a minute, and a surgeon confirms the number from your photographs free of charge.
A Valentmedica all-inclusive hair transplant package in Istanbul costs £1,650–£2,900. The same operation in a UK clinic is typically £5,000–£12,000, where it is usually priced per graft.
| Technique | Price (GBP) | Grafts included | Nights in Turkey |
|---|---|---|---|
| FUE | £1,650–£2,100 | Up to 4,000 | 3 |
| Sapphire FUE | £1,900–£2,400 | Up to 4,500 | 3 |
| DHI | £2,300–£2,900 | Up to 3,500 | 3 |
| Unshaven FUE | £2,500–£3,100 | Up to 2,500 | 3 |
| Beard or eyebrow transplant | £1,500–£2,300 | Up to 2,000 | 3 |
Per-graft pricing gives a clinic an incentive to harvest more than your donor area can afford, and gives you a bill that only becomes clear on the day. Valentmedica quotes one fixed price for the plan your surgeon recommends. If you need fewer grafts than estimated, the price does not change — and neither does it if you need more.
Elsewhere you usually pay for the operation alone. A Valentmedica package also includes your hospital stay, hotel, transfers and a personal coordinator.
Prices are indicative ranges in pounds. France, Italy and Spain: estimated from private prices in Germany.

Indicative figures, not a quote. Bars show the usual range in each market; overseas figures are typically surgeon and facility only. Flights are an estimate for a return economy fare. Your price is confirmed in writing after a clinician has reviewed your case.
The best candidates have a stable pattern of loss, a healthy donor area at the back of the head, and realistic expectations about the density a transplant can restore.
Three nights in Istanbul, one long day in the clinic. Here is exactly what happens, and when.
You send photographs of your hairline, crown and donor area. A surgeon assesses your Norwood stage, donor density and realistic graft count, and you receive a written fixed quote with a hairline plan.
Your driver meets you at Istanbul airport and takes you to the hotel. Rest; nothing medical happens today.
Blood tests first thing, then your surgeon draws the hairline with you in front of a mirror and you agree it before anything is shaved. Extraction takes about three hours, then a break for lunch, then channel opening and placement. You are back at the hotel by early evening.
You return to the clinic for your first wash, performed by a nurse who then teaches you to do it yourself. You receive your lotion, shampoo, medication and written instructions, and a PRP session if it is indicated.
A final check and your transfer to the airport. Wear a loose hood rather than a cap.
The crusts have gone and the transplanted hairs shed. This is expected — the follicle stays and begins a new cycle.
First new growth appears, fine and sparse at first.
Thickening continues. Valentmedica reviews your photographs at 3, 6 and 12 months with your surgeon.
The hospital and hotel you will be using, and the specifics you can check before you pay a deposit.
The facility is named to you in writing, with its licence and accreditation numbers, so you can verify it rather than take our word for it. If you would like to see the building, ask: we can usually arrange a visit before you decide.
Six to eight hours under local anaesthetic, in one day. You are awake throughout and can eat, talk and use your phone between stages.
Expect crusting for about ten days, shedding of the transplanted hairs at weeks two to four, first growth at three to four months, and the final result between twelve and eighteen months.
A hair transplant is minor surgery with a low complication rate, but it is still surgery, and the real risk in Turkey is choosing the wrong provider rather than the procedure itself.
Valentmedica works only with licensed clinics and hospitals in Istanbul, and with doctors registered with the Turkish Ministry of Health. Your surgeon designs the hairline and opens the channels personally. You are given their name and registration number before you pay anything.
Nothing about a hair transplant is an emergency, which is one reason it travels well. Your coordinator stays reachable, and the surgeon reviews your photographs at three, six and twelve months.
Yes — and the best long-term results usually come from combining surgery with medical treatment, rather than relying on surgery alone.
Surgery restores what you have lost. Medication protects what you still have. Used together they stop the common pattern of a good transplant surrounded by continuing loss.
A second transplant session is sometimes planned from the outset for extensive loss — typically twelve months after the first, once growth is established and your surgeon can see exactly how much donor hair remains.
Stop blood thinners and alcohol before you travel, come with clean unstyled hair, wear a button-up shirt on the day, and plan to keep the grafts protected for two weeks.
Transplanted hair is permanent and grows for life. The final result appears between twelve and eighteen months, and FUE leaves tiny dot scars that are invisible at normal hair length.
Judge the result at twelve months, not before. At three months you will see almost nothing; at six months you will see enough to be encouraged; at twelve the density is close to final, and the crown may still improve into the eighteenth month. Photographing yourself monthly in the same light is the only reliable way to track progress — day-to-day it is invisible.
The transplanted hair behaves like donor hair, so it is not affected by the hormone that causes pattern loss. The hair around it still is. Keeping that hair with medication is what keeps the overall result looking good a decade later. You can see twelve-month outcomes across different Norwood stages in our hair transplant before and after gallery.
At Valentmedica, £1,650–£2,900 as an all-inclusive package depending on technique. That covers the surgeon, the procedure however many grafts you need, two hotel nights, all transfers, your aftercare kit and twelve months of growth reviews. Flights are not included.
Three nights. Arrival day, procedure day, and a third day for your first wash and aftercare training at the clinic before you fly home on day four.
The local anaesthetic injections sting for a couple of minutes. After that you should feel pressure but not pain. Most discomfort comes afterwards, in the donor area, and is managed with simple painkillers for two or three nights.
The transplanted hairs shed at weeks two to four — this is normal. First new growth appears at three to four months, you will see real density by six to nine months, and the final result lands between twelve and eighteen months. The crown is always slowest.
For the first ten days, yes — there is visible redness and crusting. Most patients plan around two weeks before returning to a workplace. After the crusts clear and the hair is shaved short all over, it is hard to tell.
It depends on your pattern and your donor density. Roughly: 1,500–2,000 for a receding hairline, 2,800–3,500 for a hairline plus early crown, and 4,500 or more for extensive loss. Our hair graft calculator gives an estimate, and a surgeon confirms it from your photographs.
Yes. It comes from the back of the head, which is genetically resistant to pattern loss, and it keeps that resistance after it is moved. The hair around it can still thin, which is why medical treatment alongside surgery matters.
FUE and Sapphire FUE suit most cases and allow higher graft numbers in one session. DHI is better for precise hairline work and for adding density between existing hairs without shaving, but takes longer and covers a smaller area per session. Your surgeon recommends based on your pattern, not on price.
Many patients with Norwood 5 or above do, usually twelve months later once growth is established. Planning that from the start protects your donor area rather than exhausting it in one sitting.
Yes. Female pattern loss, traction alopecia and hairline lowering are all treatable, and an unshaven technique is often used. Women need a careful medical assessment first, because diffuse thinning can have causes — thyroid, iron, hormonal — that surgery will not fix.
Usually yes, to about 1 mm, which makes extraction and placement far more accurate. An unshaven procedure is possible, costs more, and is limited to smaller graft numbers.
Contact your coordinator. Growth is assessed at twelve months, not before, because earlier judgements are unreliable. Where there is genuine poor growth attributable to the procedure, Valentmedica arranges a corrective session under the aftercare terms set out in your written quote.
